Friday April 14th marked the 20th year Mersey Road Paintball in East River, Nova Scotia has launched the Eastern Canadian paintball season, with the annual Black Friday woodsball game.<br />
<br />
Players from across the region came together for what many consider to be the unofficial start to the paintball season. Field owner Jim Langlois is amazed the game has carried on for 20 years.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>"The phone rang in the spring of 97." Langlois recalls, "A few of the local players had the day off work on Good Friday and were looking for something to do. I told them If they came out I'd open the field." That as it turned out was the first Black Friday event.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_LuOx_77xitW3lKt88BjX2L6kdmxIkklDtt_ySZ4DPf4ZoZ8Fee84rvllRZs49xmfQNH8bllGaIfp2kmlxtUcT-yM-SUDjqmOP7aqWnVyFlw6RckHHxAfPqugKl3hPgLty4BEhvICF5A/s1600/Black+Friday+2017+%2528131%2529.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Woodsballs in Eastern Canada" border="0" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_LuOx_77xitW3lKt88BjX2L6kdmxIkklDtt_ySZ4DPf4ZoZ8Fee84rvllRZs49xmfQNH8bllGaIfp2kmlxtUcT-yM-SUDjqmOP7aqWnVyFlw6RckHHxAfPqugKl3hPgLty4BEhvICF5A/s400/Black+Friday+2017+%2528131%2529.jpg" title="Mersey Road Paintball - Black Friday" width="400" /></a>Players of every experience level and from every style of play come out for Black Friday. This mix of players is what makes Black Friday special. Black Friday is one of the few events were a speedballer in a bright jersey and a rental player can bee seen battling a pump player and player in a ghillie suit.<br />
<br />
The relaxed casual nature is another aspect that makes Black Friday an event to attend. Players are more intent on shaking off the rust and having fun then winning.<br />
<br />
Throughout the day players could be heard excitedly telling tale of heroism on the field, laughing at each other's stories, and loving the sport of paintball. Field owner Langlois at times cannot believe how far things have come.<br />
<br />
Langlois Commented "It is amazing to think what started as 10 friends killing an afternoon has turned into an annual pilgrimage for hundreds of players." "As long as the players keep coming out, I will keep hosting the event."<br />
<br />
These last 20 years have been great. Mersey Road Paintball has proved to be Atlantic Canada's home of great paintball, at a great field with great players. I can't wait to see what the next 20 years has in store.<br />

<div class="MsoNormal">
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="OLE_LINK5"></a><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">What happened to the game we
love? In 2007 there were ten speedball fields in Atlantic Canada. Today there
are only four. Of those four with only three fields are being used regularly.
With regards to one genre of our sport, speedball, how did over a fifty percent
of our available fields happen?</span></span></div>
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK1;"></span>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">The answer is simple: player decline.</span></span></div>
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK2;"></span>
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">The
events that lead to this decline are more complicated. Of course the lack of empirical
data leads most conclusions on the subject to be a combination of opinion, hearsay
and reflection.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">My gut
tells me the reason is a generation of players left the game. The reduction in
players in our genre means field owners have been forced to pin the survival of
their fields on an ever aging pool of veterans, combined with a much younger
albeit smaller influx of rookies.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">Let's
be honest, walk-on play generates operating revenue for the field. How
important is speedball to the survival of a field? If anything, speedball is a
diluted ‘value added’ feature at best. </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZm2z_XOWfZctkBTnyjA6UCclhQhW_fWwZ8q2VpW2hKh_kFkOR__oNVbbYFV93JiNAXmYwuVumrCDGypnJupvGu_FYT9BxEogYBfleFtGgp4-eXWPAwez6LAOd5HNQaHtGHMvHfONS4gY/s1600/HCO-%2528750%2529.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZm2z_XOWfZctkBTnyjA6UCclhQhW_fWwZ8q2VpW2hKh_kFkOR__oNVbbYFV93JiNAXmYwuVumrCDGypnJupvGu_FYT9BxEogYBfleFtGgp4-eXWPAwez6LAOd5HNQaHtGHMvHfONS4gY/s400/HCO-%2528750%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">Our
version of the sport incorporates both the best and worst of paintball. At its
best, our highest calibre players are cherished as highly skilled professional
athletes, akin to their counterparts in other professional sports. Although professional
paintball is lacking the finances to take the sport to the next level, but that
is a whole other issue. At the worst, some veteran members of our sport do
their utmost to drive newer players away.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">It has
become the accepted rule that players step through the following evolution: Rental-Walkon-Woodsball-Speedball.
For years this has been the norm. Two things happened to this norm: firstly
Woodsball/Milsim became "cool". Secondly the ever aging pool of
veterans began to leave as real life set in. The first issue would take a year
to debate so I will focus on the second.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">What
did these veteran players do for the sport. Well as previously mentioned,
speedball generates little revenue to field owners. Besides the actual
infrastructure that a field may provide, there are no additional resources
dedicated to growing speedball. The speedball aspect of our sport is left in
the hands of a few individuals or groups who take it upon themselves to
organize the sport. </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwMJyHCnAhLQR6pdAzNisIFhyPQdngcjTtZTR04HZ5LJz2rs_D-5CvUZ7PKrcvAet_rN8fPGBS8ouG_Gb4YbYGwq6jiRi87HPVoQjB4F1cszVN_onpZ-Wx3sC6UU1NhmmJ52HpjKIsVss/s1600/HCO-%2528402%2529.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="285" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwMJyHCnAhLQR6pdAzNisIFhyPQdngcjTtZTR04HZ5LJz2rs_D-5CvUZ7PKrcvAet_rN8fPGBS8ouG_Gb4YbYGwq6jiRi87HPVoQjB4F1cszVN_onpZ-Wx3sC6UU1NhmmJ52HpjKIsVss/s400/HCO-%2528402%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">Let's
face it; there is a huge volunteer aspect to any version of paintball. Unpaid
individuals do everything from tourney/big game production right through to
refereeing. Without these individuals taking a leadership and support roles,
many events would simply not happen.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">So the
crux of the argument is this: Many veteran players who dedicated much of their
career to growing the sport saw their involvement dwindle because of real-life.
All the effort they put into the sport caused them to burn out, they felt used,
or they simply stopped caring. When this happened, the onus fell back on the
field owners who as mentioned before, were extremely reluctant to put forth
resources into an empty hole.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2WGBaokVss6hEBKQE506Pz_naBGGS6jcjkB3CXNt8daos5oNO6rbeqo8yxiAjm8FdwClGIVoeXuWBzrLi8jdcogKw7mp0OT-I-iiYamVc_adERoXgRaMVRBzFOJq7hARiFeiT6dIJak4/s1600/HCO-%2528550%2529.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2WGBaokVss6hEBKQE506Pz_naBGGS6jcjkB3CXNt8daos5oNO6rbeqo8yxiAjm8FdwClGIVoeXuWBzrLi8jdcogKw7mp0OT-I-iiYamVc_adERoXgRaMVRBzFOJq7hARiFeiT6dIJak4/s400/HCO-%2528550%2529.jpg" width="285" /></a><span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">What
are the solutions? Individuals will once again have to take
the bull by the horns and start organizing games/practices. Veteran players
must promote locations willing to provide new player friendly facilities and protect
younger players from those who would be willing to "shoot the shit out
of them" pure enjoyment. </span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">Can
this happen? Sure but we as players, especially tourney players, should be
expected to pay a field fee and a decent amount for paint. If I've learned one
thing in this sport, the race to the bottom or a cost based mentality crippled
our sport beyond belief and it injected a poison which took years to erase.</span></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<br /></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK5;"><span lang="EN-US">Players
assuming a leadership role, plus fields willing to support events, plus players
willing to travel, plus players willing to pay a little more, plus experienced
players welcome and help developed newer players, equals a resurgence of our
sport.</span></span></div>

<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK4;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">When I started playing paintball the
choice of markers was vast for players. You could use a Splatmaster or a PPG.
No foolin' there were two choices. Both of these markers took a 10 ball tube of
paint, that if you were lucky, you could get on sale for two for $5.00. To put
that amount in perspective, $2.50 per tube in 1980's is equivalent to $1000 per
box in 2017 dollars.</span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">

<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK4;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">I know what you are thinking, “Oh
great! Another old guys telling us how good we have it.” Well yes, and no. We
as players have never had so many options when it comes to the game we love. I
mention 'back in the day' because I have seen paintball come from nothing to
become a massive global industry and recognized sport.</span></span><br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK4;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">A few committed (or should have been

<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK4;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">What will it take for the sport to
survive? For any sport to survive it takes a core group of dedicated players to
promote the sport whenever possible and keep new players coming back. </span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<br /></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK4;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">New players are intimidated by fancy
guns and flashy gear. It is up to every one of us to make new players feel
welcome and comfortable at the field. If we keep the new players coming back,
they will bring their friends out; the game will survive and flourish.</span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">

<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">
<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK4;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">Kevin Curry summed up the solution
perfectly. “</span>Individuals will once again have to take the bull by the
horns. Start organizing games/practices, shepherding players to locations
willing to provide facilities and also protecting younger players”</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; margin: 0in;">

<span style="mso-bookmark: OLE_LINK4;"><span lang="EN-US" style="mso-ansi-language: EN-US;">After reading through all of this I
think the title may be incorrect. The appropriate statement that must be known
by every person who loves the sport is, 'If paintball is dying, it's your

<div style="margin-bottom: 0in;">
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/null" name="OLE_LINK1"></a><b>Where do you
fit in?</b></div>
<br />
I remember when I first started going to the paintball field. The
range of people and styles of dress made no sense. There were guys in
white t-shirts playing next to guys with trees sticking out of their
hats, next to guys in bright matching gear.<br />
<br />
I can see how a newcomer to the sport can be confused, overwhelmed
and intimidated by everything that goes on in the staging area during
typical day at the field. With the start of a new paintball season I
thought I would try to make some sense of the organized chaos.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
The more I went out to the field, and watched what was going on, the
more a hierarchy began to emerge. Well not so much a hierarchy as
defined groups of players. There seemed to be four main identifiable
groups.<br />
<br />
During my career I found myself in every group, at one time or
another. It wasn’t until years later I could see the four phases of
my own career and spot it in the other players at the field.<br />
<br />
Of course there are exceptions to every rule, but typically I
noticed that most players fall into one of four main groups.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b>The Novice Player</b><br />
<b>(from the Latin: Paintballator Newbius)</b><br />
<br />
<i>Why They Play:</i> People normally go to the field the first
time with a rental group. An end of season party for a sports team,
birthday party, bachelor party, or team building for work are the
most common introductions to the sport.<br />
<br />
They can’t put their figure out why, but for some reason the
sport has a primal appeal to a novice player.<br />
<br />
<i>What They Wear: </i>The novice player is afraid that being hit
by a paintball will hurt so they normally wear a thick hoodie or
sweater that they don't mind getting dirty.<br />
<br />
<i>What They Use: </i>Novice players start with an easy to operate
semi automatic, mechanical rental marker, like a Tippmann 98 with a
‘gravity feed’ loader. Anything that will shoot a .68 caliber
ball 290 feet per second is the novice players marker of choice.<br />
<br />
<i>How They Play: </i>The first few times on the field a novice
player will typically spend most of the time safe behind a bunker,
long balling at shadows.<br />
<br />
<i>Their Team:</i> Novice players are so amazed by the adrenalin
rush that the thought of team play is unimaginable. The survival
instincts hard wired into every human makes the Novice think only of
themselves and self preservation.<br />
<br />
<i>How You Can Spot Them:</i> Novice players can be spotted by the
greatly exaggerated stories of bravery and daring exploits excitedly
traded in the staging area. Or, they sit in the staging area staring
in wide eyed amazement at the organized chaos going on around them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b>The Experienced Player</b><br />
<b>(from the Latin: Woodsballeous Sneakyous)</b><br />
<br />
<i>Why They Play: </i>Experienced players have been bitten by the
paintball bug. Go out to the field for "walk on" days whenever possible
and are starting to learn how to really play the game.<br />
<br />
<i>What They Wear: </i>The experienced player wears camouflage and
sometimes a ghillie suit. They have learned what works best for them,
and how they like to play the game. A ghillie suit for the sneaky
guys crawling through the bushes, or something a little more form
fitting for players who like to run and gun.<br />
<br />
<i>What They Use: </i>An upgraded mechanical marker like a
Tippmann A5 or X7 Phenom is typical for the experienced player with
multiple firing modes and sometimes, cosmetic modification to make
the marker appear more intimidating, a remote line to a tank on a
vest is not uncommon.<br />
<br />
<i>How They Play:</i> Experienced players love walk on days and
the opportunity to hunt the novice players coupled with the
excitement of the occasional gun battle with another experienced
player.<br />
<br />
<i>Their Team:</i> Experienced players make friends at the field
and seem to naturally form a team by playing with the same guys week
after week. This team of friends will travel to big games like a
Tippmann Challenge or Hells Survivors.<br />
<br />
<i>How You Can Spot Them:</i> The experienced player dressed like
he means business and is calm in the staging area. Experienced
players often spend the time between games reflecting on the previous
time out and how to score more eliminations. Experienced players are
completely comfortable at the field the mechanics of the sport have
now become automatic.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPcQ26qqmUFDqo3NacwDzd0x5VZ-Aj82i-HGe1_Mx8SBVL34Tt3sJD1Kf2dxAE88Vra5cLShg121vNVV7idqsr8qp9_DbnBvzJ0uIIHcRuqSivRV2cHBaclMdg9cm-SQhXRAHX1oN9xqU/s1600/Phases-of-Paintball-Advance.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPcQ26qqmUFDqo3NacwDzd0x5VZ-Aj82i-HGe1_Mx8SBVL34Tt3sJD1Kf2dxAE88Vra5cLShg121vNVV7idqsr8qp9_DbnBvzJ0uIIHcRuqSivRV2cHBaclMdg9cm-SQhXRAHX1oN9xqU/s1600/Phases-of-Paintball-Advance.jpg" /></a></div>
<b>The Advanced Player</b><br />
<b>(from the Latin: Tournamentium Shootlotsofem)</b><br />
<br />
<i>Why They Play:</i> By the time they become and advanced player
paintball in the blood to stay. Now, only after it is to late, the
advanced player realizes that paintball is more addictive than meth
but is twice as expensive. They will be late on the rent, and miss
car payments to have the money to play the next event. In the
religion of paintball the advanced player is the true believer.<br />
<br />
<i>What They Wear: </i>The advanced player typically wears
brightly coloured jersey, with matching pants. Standing on the field
the advanced is easy to spot by the case of paint in pods on their
back.<br />
<br />
<i>What They Use: </i>A flashy electro marker, like a Tippmann
XVR, capable of sustained high rates for fire for an extended period.<br />
<br />
<i>How They Play: </i>Fire and move, fire and move, is the name of
the advanced player's game. They live by the motto 'Paint is Power'
and are only comfortable when 12 balls per second are skimming past
the mask.<br />
<br />
Their Team: A team of advanced players is more than a bunch of
guys with matching jerseys. The advanced team, to a man, ardently
believes that nobody can beat them on the field.<br />
<br />
<i>How You Can Spot Them:</i> The swagger of the advanced player
is unmistakable. They can not wait to get on the field and throw
paint. They live for the next gun battle and the chance to prove how
good they are at the sport they love.<br />

<b>The Expert Player</b><br />
<b>(from the Latin: Paintballitor Expermentium)</b><br />
<br />
<i>Why They Play:</i> The expert player can't imagine doing
anything else. They go out on walk on days, will practice with a
tourney team, ref a rental group, it doesn't matter as long as they
are at the field.<br />
<br />
What They Wear: Usually the expert player will wear whatever is
close at hand when they get up. Maybe that old Gap sweatshirt that is
still in the closet. It doesn't matter a long as they can play.<br />
<br />
<i>What They Use:</i> The expert player will use pump marker, like
a Tippmann SL68-II, or even a rental marker in order to jump in on a
walk on game. Anything that will shoot a .68 caliber ball at 290 feet
per second will be good enough for the expert.<br />
<br />
<i>How They Play:</i> The expert normally turns down the intensity
when going out on walk on day. They try to help and encourage any
novice players they come across. At times you can't tell the
difference between an expert and a novice player who are behind the
same bunker. The only way to tell is to get close; the one that
doesn’t have eyes as big as pie plates is the expert.<br />
<br />
<i>Their Team:</i> Everyone around knows the expert players. They
will play with almost anyone. The expert player just wants to play.<br />
<br />
<i>How You Can Spot Them:</i> The expert has been around a long
time. They seem to get preferred treatment, and take a few liberties
now and then, but field owners don't mind cutting them some slack
because of what they give back to the game.<br />
<br />
These are merely my observations at the field over the years. This
list isn’t intended to rank one style of play over another, or to
say this kind of player is better than another.<br />
<br />
It takes every kind, and level, of player to make this sport what
it is. On any given day a 12 year old with a rental marker can
eliminate an advanced player with a high end elctro. Every skill
level of player on the field together is part of what makes this
sport great.<br />
<br />
No matter in what phase you find your career. If you have only
played once, or you have played for twenty years, take every
opportunity to play the game you love, and have fun doing it.<div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div><span style="font-size: x-small;">Photos courtesy of <a href="http://HalifaxSportsPhotos.ca">HalifaxSportsPhotos.ca</a><br /></span><p><br /></p></div>

This episode of Paintball Tipps
talks about the basic team tactic of the Bounding Overwatch. No matter what you
try on the field there is one skill you must completely master before you can
take your game to the next level. One skill more than any other will make you
the master of woodsball or tourneyball - the "Bounding Overwatch".

The Tippinators are pleased to announce the release of the second video in the Paintball Tipps series. This latest video focuses on the safety and how easy it is to keep the game safe for everyone.<br />
<br />
This episode was inspired by an email we received from a viewer. "We received an email from a viewer asking about safety." said Tippinator Bruce 'Charon' Johnston. "Safety is so integral to everything we do as players that we had to produce a safety video."<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
This is the second video of what we hope will turn into a series that can both educate new players, as well as, entertain the more experienced . <br />

The Tippinators have been thinking about doing it for a while, and we were finally able to produce our first animated instructional video.<br />
<br />
The video is called "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fR8j8GjYFOI" target="_blank">Paintball Tipps - Fire and Move the Key to Winning Paintball</a>". We hope this will be the first in a series of videos that are designed to help new players learn the game while entertaining more experienced players. <br />
<br />
Experienced players are asked for advice by new players all the time. Rather then passing on tips to players one by one as we have been for years, these videos let us answer the most frequently asked questions to everyone at once. <br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
This is the first of what will be a series of videos. Providing players like the videos, and find them useful, we plan to produce more. There are literally hundreds of topics that can be covered in an entertaining and informative manner.<br />
<br />
"We had so much fun making the first one we would love to do more." said Tippinator Bruce Charon Johnston. "If players give us ideas of what they would like to see in future episodes we will do our best to accommodate."<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<b>'Crossover XVR' Integrates Player Recommended Upgrades</b><br />
<i>Tippmann expands on Crossover platform thanks to feedback from players</i><br />
<br />
Tippmann
introduces the XVR, an enhanced version of the hugely successful
Crossover marker. Launched last year, the Crossover appeals more to
woodsball players seeking a marker offering the ability to ‘crossover’
into tournament-style play. The new XVR takes Tippmann performance to a
new level.
<br />
<br />
The marker was developed based on feedback and suggestions secured by
the company from speedball players worldwide. The result is a marker
specifically designed to deliver during tournament-style play but still
tough enough for woodsball.
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
In the past, players complained about the case in which the Crossover
was shipped. I never did understand that complaint since the marker will
get scratched the first time you use it. After all it is a Tippmann, a
marker designed to be dragged through the mud as you belly crawl 200
yards forward to get that perfect shot.
<br />
<br />
In order to silence the haters, the XVR case is padded with a zipped
closure that uses Velcro to secure the marker and barrel. The case is a
light weight, simple and intuitive way to store, transport, and protect
your marker.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBowOVSRRzAhZafjhMf28uMhabH5ICHtX4nr5ADbwpnkK3rz3XdWXU_0NP1Ze0Ii9Gn8-J7W72xZxNI6iiGfx4Twh1S40S8UBe06iSRLcVCVMuIjBRS9PUgANB2xHU8MT-weu7TVN0Ai0/s1600/XVR_Ad.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="251" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBowOVSRRzAhZafjhMf28uMhabH5ICHtX4nr5ADbwpnkK3rz3XdWXU_0NP1Ze0Ii9Gn8-J7W72xZxNI6iiGfx4Twh1S40S8UBe06iSRLcVCVMuIjBRS9PUgANB2xHU8MT-weu7TVN0Ai0/s640/XVR_Ad.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
When you take the XVR out of the box you notice many features unique to
the Crossover including: Flexvalve Technology, 6 electronic firing
modes, ability to add front vertical regulator, integrated break beam
anti-chop eyes, forged aluminum upper receiver, adjustable clamping
feedneck and an internal gas line. Two immediate differences you notice
are the two-piece barrel and a vented on/off Air Source Adapter (ASA).
<br />
<br />
I shake my head when I hear players say of the Crossover, “So what, it’s
just another spool valve.” No other manufacturer’s marker has the
ability to switch from electronic mode to mechanical mode, and back
again - on the fly. The Flexvalve feature on the Crossover has kept me
in many games and is a feature I honestly don’t know how I played
without. If your battery does go down and you have no quick access to a
replacement, you don’t have to lose valuable playing time searching for a
replacement battery or teching your marker. With the Flexvalve you can
keep playing uninterrupted.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGe2cgoZeC-9ic7M1lRdrubuRGGtwQHd7V0e3qlpNtSu-jPu2zrBy3N6JkaL76BZ6_1autIpPvaUgAUjYYsUCgjHKuF3ZdXBLhgjLrdo8QxmN4QJpd7QgkFJ08KQ5hZ_-QT_TDy5dXeII/s1600/XVR+%2528123%2529.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGe2cgoZeC-9ic7M1lRdrubuRGGtwQHd7V0e3qlpNtSu-jPu2zrBy3N6JkaL76BZ6_1autIpPvaUgAUjYYsUCgjHKuF3ZdXBLhgjLrdo8QxmN4QJpd7QgkFJ08KQ5hZ_-QT_TDy5dXeII/s400/XVR+%2528123%2529.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
Teching
a marker has never been easier with tool-less access. With the new XVR
you need no tools to access either the Flexvalve assembly or the
battery; the two most often accessed parts of the marker. Tool-less
access will give you even more time on the playing field not in the safe
area fiddling with your marker.
<br />
<br />
The XVR also has a little "Bling" factor with the introduction of three
different colored markers. The three popular colors of the XVR are red,
olive and titanium. The marker has clean contoured lines with
streamlined front grip to make the marker lighter and sleeker which is
immediately noticeable as soon as you assemble the marker.
<br />
<br />
One feature most players immediately upgrade, regardless of make or
model of marker, is the barrel; well not with the XVR. A new feature
with this marker is an upgraded, two-piece, high performance, 15 inch
barrel. The stock Crossover barrel shoots well, but the new stock
two-piece barrel that comes with the XVR is incredibly accurate.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9yAGyh3Y0oo9OFaBveBu9KsSfqaFuZP0dmnWCehidIVirKRH20Z5nfy_6XCDE4uBRAYS7uFZDW7c0WYQSgCN1fsuizEsglrhzf0tFg5fLQW_HNmmShog4rChOpMPPsz7v3PE2rpbUVOM/s1600/XVR_New_in_Case.png" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="314" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9yAGyh3Y0oo9OFaBveBu9KsSfqaFuZP0dmnWCehidIVirKRH20Z5nfy_6XCDE4uBRAYS7uFZDW7c0WYQSgCN1fsuizEsglrhzf0tFg5fLQW_HNmmShog4rChOpMPPsz7v3PE2rpbUVOM/s640/XVR_New_in_Case.png" width="640" /></a></div>
Players who want to squeeze even more performance out of the marker
Tippmann has a three piece barrel kit specifically engineered to work
perfectly with XVR. If you have a gear bag full of old cocker threaded
barrel kits, fear not. The XVR comes with a Cocker threaded barrel
adapter so you can still use your favourite barrel kit.
<br />
<br />
If you are sitting on the fence, not sure if you should pick up a XVR,
there are 10 new upgrades between the Crossover and the Crossover XVR
<br />
1. New venting On/Off ASA<br />
2. New 15" two-piece barrel<br />
3. New tool-less access to FlexValve<br />

Paintballers will swear up and down that big paintball games always seem
to coincide with the most inclement of weather. The paintball gods do
however listen to player's pleas for leniency from time to time. Proof
of this came recently when the remnants of hurricane Gabriel that the
Canadian Hurricane Centre had predicted to hit Nova Scotia, moved
further west then forecast narrowing missing the province.
<br />
<br />
Woodsballers from across the region were happy to play the Tippmann X7
Phenom Atlantic Tactical Woodsball League Championship, at Mersey Road
Paintball in East River, Nova Scotia on September 14, 2013 under cloudy
skies and gentle breezes rather then 100kp/h winds and torrential rains.
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a>The season long battle for woodsball supremacy came down to a showdown
between two veteran teams, the Mersey Road Predators and the Nova Scotia
Mercenaries.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-pOxpRHdhFe2NX66F7j5SCMDlGZEzSSycuP6RjG1WCiJ01Q-a4hot_Q23pfCfK8J_euloo0dHZnWK_M3TRwzwjTdBPKXkkQxqyeqUGoIZq-UnHNK_fuohxEwMOEV210RFsiQsJPjA7EM/s1600/2013ATWLe3+%2528117%2529.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Mersey Road Predators get ready for the ATWL Final" border="0" height="266" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-pOxpRHdhFe2NX66F7j5SCMDlGZEzSSycuP6RjG1WCiJ01Q-a4hot_Q23pfCfK8J_euloo0dHZnWK_M3TRwzwjTdBPKXkkQxqyeqUGoIZq-UnHNK_fuohxEwMOEV210RFsiQsJPjA7EM/s400/2013ATWLe3+%2528117%2529.jpg" title="Mersey Road Predators get ready for the ATWL Final" width="400" /></a></div>
Both
the Mercenaries and Predators have won the ATWL title in the past. The
experienced players on each team know exactly what it takes to repeat as
champion. The look of steely determination in the eyes of players as
they took the field gave an indication of how exciting the paintball
championship would be.
<br />
<br />
From the opening horn the ATWL championship final was a pitched battle.
Neither team was willing back down nor show weakness to the other. The
teams rushed forward to the capture points under a hail of paintballs.
The intensity of play increased as the game wore on. The veteran players
saved their best paintball for the championship while the young guns
tried even harder to out play the 'old guys'.
<br />
<br />
The final horn sounded and the players gathered eagerly awaiting the
announcement of the official scores and reviewing the prize table. The
table generously packed with items from Tippmann, PBL, NXe, and GI
Sportz, plus gold, silver and bronze medals, and of course the one thing
all the players want to get their hand on - the ATWL cup.
<br />
<br />
The officials met and when the final scores were tabulated it was the
Mersey Road Predators who conquered all to win the Atlantic Tactical
Woodsball League championship for the second time in three years.
<br />
<br />

"The
team played great today, they saved the best for last." said Derrick
Keeler of the Predators "Early in the season we had our issues on the
field, but everyone stepped up their game and came together when it
counted. It feels incredible to be on top again after the disappointment
last season."
<br />
<br />
The outstanding sportsmanship and skill shown on the field by all the
teams and the players of the ATWL has shown that competitive woodsball
is alive and well in Eastern Canada.
<br />
<br />
The league would like to thank Tippmann Sports and BuyPBL for their
outstanding support of the league. Without the support of these
paintball industry leaders the ATWL would not be possible. The league
would also like to thank Mersey Road Paintball and Hypersportz Paintball
for use of their outstanding facilities this season.
<br />
<br />
If all goes well the ATWL will be expanding to play an event at Spikes
Paintball, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island for an event in 2014.
There are still many details to iron out but if all goes as planned next
season each one of the three events will be played in a different
province. For the first time in league history the ATWL will be a truly
regional league for the Maritimes and Maritime players.<br />

<b>New 'Crossover XVR' Integrates Ten Performance Upgrades</b><br />
<i>Tippmann builds upon its Crossover platform after securing feedback from tournament players </i><br />
<br />
Tippmann is excited to introduce the XVR, a specially-enhanced version
of the company's Crossover marker. Launched last year, the original
Crossover appealed more to woodsball players seeking a marker offering
the ability to 'crossover' into tournament-style play. But, the new XVR
takes Tippmann performance to an entirely new level and was developed
based on feedback and suggestions secured by the company from speedball
players worldwide. The result is an exciting new paintball marker
specifically designed to deliver during tournament-style play.
<br />
<a name='more'></a>
<br />
Performance upgrades integrated into the new XVR include a redesigned
on/off ASA adapter, a high performance 15" two-piece barrel that offers
superior range and accuracy right out of the box, and an adapter for
Autococker threads, so players can have more barrel options. To enhance
servicing, the XVR also offers fast, tool-free access to the marker's
FlexValve System and battery compartment so changes can be made quickly
and easily.<br />
<br />
Of course, most obviously, the XVR boasts a bold and
aggressive new look highlighted by its longer two-piece barrel and
streamlined front grip as well as three popular color options that are
sure to get noticed. The XVR also comes standard within a soft sided
two-compartment case designed to protect the marker and barrel during
transport.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN5Xl7UlaE-JzC_rjjXlrJ90AYUHWKOXgPBfm2Mnwyxiqdi0OD0hukNmK2fS5LeH0oXSR9RxbBK3xgtW9-KTvJ9dooU-rmAJ1JiU9uaJXh9KGyR_32aP8MmnYBfIoTwFHC7BOdGO6jCco/s1600/Tippmann_XVR_Silver.png" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="The Tippmann XVR comes in three colors" border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhN5Xl7UlaE-JzC_rjjXlrJ90AYUHWKOXgPBfm2Mnwyxiqdi0OD0hukNmK2fS5LeH0oXSR9RxbBK3xgtW9-KTvJ9dooU-rmAJ1JiU9uaJXh9KGyR_32aP8MmnYBfIoTwFHC7BOdGO6jCco/s400/Tippmann_XVR_Silver.png" title="The aln NEW Tippammn Crossover XVR" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
"Before incorporating any changes into the Crossover, we wanted to take a
hard look at what players were looking for. The XVR was designed for
tournament players by tournament players and we're very excited to offer
this group a new high-performance option that also delivers time-tested
durability, unmatched customer support and an industry leading two-year
warranty," said Ron Goldblatt, director of marketing for Tippmann
Sports. "We're asking all players considering a tournament-style marker
at this price to take a serious look at the XVR because it certainly
stacks up favorably against any competitive product. Of course, all of
our current teams - including the Tippinators and Tippmann Effect - will
be switching to the XVR as well as Greg Hastings, who will be promoting
the marker in his new 'Tour of Duty' events."
<br />
<br />
When Tippmann consulted with speedball players, the most
commonly-requested upgrade for the Crossover was the ability to enhance
performance with additional barrel upgrades - including two-piece
barrels with bore-sizing options. To deliver on this request, Tippmann
developed a new barrel kit with three smaller bore size options, which
many tournament and woodsball players wanted to see.
Of course, any XVR player who wants to 'crossover' into the woods won't
be disappointed. The FlexValve incorporated into the new marker allows
players to quickly switch from electronic mode to mechanical mode
on-the-fly. So, the game always continues - even with a dead battery.
<br />
<br />
The new Crossover XVR from Tippmann Sports will retail for $429 and is
expected to be available at paintball dealers worldwide in mid October.

Everyone has heard the hype surrounding paintball mega games but why are big games so special? At big games players get much more than just a day of trigger squeezing. At a big game you get not only a target rich environment but you get to see things like Darth Vader, Ironman, Sarge from Halo, and a jungle explorer riding an ostrich.
<br />

<a name='more'></a>Tippinators love big games so much that part of the team made the twenty eight hour round trip drive from Halifax, Nova Scotia to Montreal, Quebec to attend Tippmann Challenge held at Paintball Mirabel on August 10, 2013.
<br />
<br />
The Tippmann challenge has been a tradition at Paintball Mirabel, since 2006. The reputation of the Tippmann Challenge is based on the quality of the scenario and an incomparable quality price ratio for an event of that caliber, Paintball Mirabel delivers on both counts.

Tippmann Challenge Mirabel offers more then just paintball. The game has helicopters, entertainment, attendance prizes, free lunch, free on site technical support from Tippmann employees, costume contests, speedball exhibitions and more during the event.
<br />
<br />
To accommodate all 1500 players, Paintball Mirabel joined all of the individual fields together to create one large field. Joining all fields together creates a multifaceted field that requires changing playing styles when moving from area to area in order to be successful.
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
One of the new fields Mirabel has just completed is a Vietnam War style village. It is not two or three building but an entire village. The area has twenty plus buildings, an open air market, temple with a gong, prisoner holding cages, communications centre, vehicles, storage silo
and more.
<br />
<br />
Big games are more then just playing, they are an opportunity to reacquaint with old friends. The Tipps were excited to play alongside the eternally youthful Mike 'Blue' Hanse and Blue's Crew for the afternoon. It had been seven years since the Tippinators played with Blue and his Crew while attacking the Castle Aaarrg at EMR in 2007.
<br />
<br />
Tippinator Bruce Johnston was excited to be able to spend time one-on-one with Tippmann Sports Chairman Howard Kosick, PBL Action Sports President Robert Lee and Tippmann VP of International Sales Brent Cunningham.
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
"To be able to spend hours talking with the heads of the world's leading paintball companies is an incredible experience." said Johnston "I can't think of another sport where a participant can walk up and talk to the people who shape the game world wide. It is humbling"
<br />
<br />
As the day drew to a close, tents were being taken down, and RV's pulling away; the smiles on player's faces proved Tippmann Challenge Mirabel was an incredible experience for all involved. Once again Hugo Bigras, owner of Paintball Mirabel and his professional staff put together a memorable day of paintball.
<br />
<br />
The team would like to thank Brent Cunningham from Tippmann, Robert Lee, Mike Silva, and Louie D'Alesio from PBL Action Sports, Hugo Bigras of Paintball Mirabel for their hospitality and for making the Tippinators feel like they were playing their home field.
<br />
<br />
If you are a player who loves paintball you owe it to yourself to attend a big game. The organized insanity of 1500 players on the field at once is something that must be experienced at least once. Find the nearest Tippmann Challenge, sign up and go experience it for yourself.

Tippmann X7 Phenom Atlantic Tactical Woodsball League Event 2 played on
August 3, 2012 was some of the most exciting woodsball played in the
history of the league. Tippmann Sports and BuyPBL invaded Hypersportz
Paintball in Mount Uniacke, Nova Scotia, to host the best players in the
region for the mid point of the 2013 season.
<br />
<br />
Returning ATWL players were impressed with the field improvements that
are continuing at Hyper Sportz. "We are making improvements to the
playability of the field for the ATWL." said Field Manager Jim Bent. "We
are getting great feedback from the players and will make more
improvements for next season."

An ATWL match consists of two, teams of ten players, playing two
20-minute games. The teams play one game, switch start points for the
second game, to complete the match. Playing two games from opposite ends
of the field eliminates any advantage in the field layout. The teams
fight for three capture points spread across the field. Five points are
awarded for every minute a capture point is held with a 25 point bonus
for holding the center capture point at the end of the game.
<br />
<br />
The ATWL excitement began with the first game of the day as the
sophomore Green Acres Goblins came out of the gate strong. The Goblins
used aggressive fire and movement to control the field and wrestle a win
away from the Mersey Road Predators by only 10 points.
<br />

"The Goblin came together as a team today and showed real signs of
improvement." said James Langlois Captain of the Predators. "They (The
Goblins) will be contenders if they continue to improve the way they
have been."
<br />
<br />
The improvement of the Goblins was great to see but the story of the day
was the play of the surging Strict Union Militia from Moncton New
Brunswick. The Militia played nearly flawless paintball and finished the
day undefeated.
<br />
<br />
The incredible play of the Militia dominated the day and propelled the
team to first place for the season. A first place regular season finish
puts SU in a commanding position heading into the league championship
event in September.
<br />
<br />
The Nova Scotia Mercenaries played consistently strong paintball and
finished the day just behind the Militia. "It has been a great day and a
season to remember." commented Kevin Whynot Captain of the Mercenaries.
"The team is playing well and we have put ourselves in a position to
win in it all in the next event."
<br />
<br />
The depleted Mersey Road Predators played well all day but finish in
third place. The looked good on the field but strong play of the Militia
bumped the Predators into second position by a single point.
<br />
<br />

standings. We have a few things to improve on, but we will be ready for
the Championship match." said Predators player Dave Rose.
<br />
<br />
After two events, SU Militia is leading the way with the Predators one
Win/Loss point behind. The Mercenaries are in third place only five
Capture Points behind SU. The Green Acres Goblins are consistently
improving and should not be counted out.
<br />
<br />
Heading to the championship the teams are evenly matched as every team
is a position to win it all. The 2013 TippmannX7 Phenom Atlantic
Tactical Woodsball League winner will be decided at Mersey Road
Paintball in East River Nova Scotia on September 14th.<br />

<br />
The
seventh season of the premiere woodsball league in Eastern Canada, the
Tippmann X7 Phenom Atlantic Tactical Woodsball League (ATWL) kicked off
June 15th, 2013 Mersey Road Paintball in East River Nova Scotia.
<br />
<br />
Woodsball teams from around the Maritimes came together to once again to
begin the battle for the ATWL Cup and the title of the best woodsball
team in the Maritimes.
<br />
<br />
The teams fight for points by capturing one of three flag stations that
are set up approximately equidistant to each team's start point on the
field. The teams play a round robin format a win earn the team 2 points,
a tie one point and a loss no points. Total flag caputure points earned
by each team is used to break a tie.
<br />
<br />
The Mersey Road Predators started the day with a bang and never looked
back. The Predators returned to the form they displayed in 2011 when the
team won the ATWL Championship. The Preds won every game and jumped to
an early season league lead.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The SU Milita from Moncton New Brunswick are starting to hit their
stride in the woods, and becoming a contender for the championship. SU
ended the day tied with the defending champion Anthraxx for win / loss
points but moved ahead of Anthraxx due to more total flag capture
points.
<br />
<br />
The
Green Acres Goblins are still learning the intricacies of competitive
woodsball play in this their sophomore season in the ATWL. The Goblins
came into the event shorthanded put up a stiff fight in every game. The
Goblins are improving with every game and are looking forward event 2.
<br />
<br />
The 2009 ATWL champion Nova Scotia Mercenaries played well all day. The
Mercs ended the day is second position but managed to accumulate the
most flag capture points for the day for the day.
<br />

Head Referee Josh Boiduk of the Tippinators was impressed with both the
skill level and sportsmanship displayed by all teams. "It was exciting
paintball to watch," said Boiduk "there was lots of paint in the air,
movement all over the field and real teamwork showed by everyone."
<br />
<br />
In 2013 the league is made up of established teams but the number of new
players in the league this season is a pleasant surprise.
<br />
<br />
"New players are vital in order for the league to succeed, and the sport
to grow." said Bruce Johnston ATWL League Commissioner "Seeing many new
faces playing on existing teams shows the sport is alive and well in
Eastern Canada."
<br />
<br />
Riding high on the success of event 1 the ATWL will next roll into
Hypersportz Paintball in Mount Uniacke, Nova Scotia on July 27th for
event 2.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The Tippinators are excited to announce that Chris Coolen has agreed to
coach the Tippinators speedball team through the rebuilding process this
season.
<br />
<br />
Coolen is a former CXBL All Star with many years of paintball experience to pass on to a young group of eager players.
<br />
<br />
"I came to the Tippinators last season because I wanted to return to the
real reason I play paintball - to have fun with a good group of guys
but maintain a competitive balance." Coolen said.
<br />
<br />
Coolen has always been friends with Tippinator players and joined the
team in 2012. "The Tippinators have always had an outstanding reputation
as a first class, professionally organized team whose players are
always seen smiling and enjoying the moment. That is what any sport
should be about." Coolen remarked of the team. "For me to reach out to
the team and ask to play last season was a no brainer."
<br />
<br />
For an exceptionally talented player, playing at the highest level in
the country to hang up his cleats to coach a rebuilding team is a
exception to the rule.
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwFPpw_QF-eB42yOao6o4jSMdDRSX3Ll-Yzgf6H-AZCtWOi1IVcT4NoW0NoZd1qHbbhh4jTlILsRV_gNQTzuHoW3JhWCoF_FrFQ9pfOS60qTzhKvI6qzChn709K6zORFJhu6ExXQl1CX8/s1600/bf03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Chris Coolen to Coach Tippinators" border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwFPpw_QF-eB42yOao6o4jSMdDRSX3Ll-Yzgf6H-AZCtWOi1IVcT4NoW0NoZd1qHbbhh4jTlILsRV_gNQTzuHoW3JhWCoF_FrFQ9pfOS60qTzhKvI6qzChn709K6zORFJhu6ExXQl1CX8/s400/bf03.jpg" title="Chris Coolen to Coach Tippinators" width="266" /></a>"Two years ago I suffered a torn ACL in my right knee," Coolen explained
"Although I did play 2011 in the CXBL and 2012 in the MXL the injury
has really taken its toll on me and that was a big factor in my decision
to coach."
<br />
<br />
The Tippinators are getting a coach with a proven track record. Coolen
coached in the past with the original Hammonds Plains team many of whom
went on to become great players.
<br />
<br />
Of the teams he has coached in the past Coolen said "Seeing positive
growth and transformation in the players makes coaching such a great
experience. I really just want to pass on my knowledge and experiences
so that they can get the most enjoyment out of the sport as possible."
<br />
<br />
Coolen is eager to get on the field with the Tippinators. "I want to
bring out the best in the new Tipp players, identify where existing
players can improve."
<br />
<br />
The goals for the team are simple. "We are going to set our sights high
for the season and to be competitive. I want to coach a group of players
that are going to take paintball as seriously as any other sport and
who have the drive and hunger to be successful." Coolen commented
<br />
<br />
For Coolen the expression "work hard, play hard" comes to mind when he
thinks of moulding a new team. The hard part he knows is in striking the
perfect balance between fun and success. Coolen also knows that "If
everyone can buy into the same system good things will come."<br />

The unofficial opening event of the 2013 Atlantic Canadian paintball
season, Black Friday, was held on Friday March 29th at Mersey Road
Paintball in East River Nova Scotia.
<br />
<br />
Black Friday is unique not only because it draws all styles of
paintballers on to the same field but because it is the first large
event of the year. Black Friday is the first chance players have to
rekindle friendships and bang the rust off the paintball skills.
<br />
<br />
"The paintball gods are smiling on us today," said James Langlois, owner
of Mersey Road Paintball, "A spring storm made the field unplayable a
few days ago. But the sun came out, cleared up the snow and made a
perfect day for paintball."
<br />
<br />
The official event registration of 209, and an unofficial head count of
close to 300, continues to make Black Friday one of the largest games in
Atlantic Canada.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCQdIU44feExaXNptdyEtE76MLqRIzIlIP3d32j9hIWpp8n8hpwyz9ZZ6CbsdU7BpGn9gPhYbJLt53sdXDHlurX23bQML1QVCYMnJMF0EtswrQE4JKw1L-gl4ZaTSiJQzRPds2zwiLBX8/s1600/bf13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="After a long wintger hibernation the 2013 paintball season is underway at Mersey Road Paintball" border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCQdIU44feExaXNptdyEtE76MLqRIzIlIP3d32j9hIWpp8n8hpwyz9ZZ6CbsdU7BpGn9gPhYbJLt53sdXDHlurX23bQML1QVCYMnJMF0EtswrQE4JKw1L-gl4ZaTSiJQzRPds2zwiLBX8/s400/bf13.jpg" title="After a long wintger hibernation the 2013 paintball season is underway at Mersey Road Paintball" width="266" /></a></div>
The game ran in two 90 minute halves, immediate respawn, with the teams
switching ends at half time. At the half time lunch break, raffle and
door prizes (provided by Tippmann Sports), were given out. The immediate
respawn made made for non stop action all over the field coupled with
prizes for players made the day a success all around.
<br />
<br />
In many areas paintball participation has been in decline. The exact
opposite is true for Atlantic Canada paintball. The increase in players
at Black Friday, expansions teams in the Atlantic Tactical Woodsball
League (ATWL), and the new Eastern Paintball Players League (EPPL),
proves that the game of paintball is stronger than ever.
<br />
<br />
“It is great to see so many players out today.” commented Ben Van Horne
of the Tippinators “With this many talented players out for the first
event of the season bodes well for the competition at the ATWL and EPPL
this year. It is going to be a great season.
<br />
<br />
The true attraction of Black Friday is that paintballers be they;
woodsballers, recballers or speedballers, can gather for a day of fun
before players gravitate back to their preferred style of play.

The 2012 woodsball season in Eastern Canada came to an exciting
conclusion with the crowning of the Tippmann X7 Phenom - Atlantic
Tactical Woodsball League Champion.
<br />
<br />
The final battle for woodsball supremacy was played on October 13, 2012
at the official field of the ATWL, Mersey Road Paintball in East River
Nova Scotia.

<br />
<br />
The four top woodsball teams in Atlantic Canada gathered to battle for
the ATWL Cup, and bragging rights as the Atlantic Tactical Woodsball
League Champion.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Teams advanced from the first playoff round to event four and a battle
for the championship represented fields from across the region; Mersey
Road Predators from Mersey Road Paintball, Nova Scotia Mercenaries from
Splatter Island Paintball, Team Anthraxx from Hypersportz Paintball, and
the Strict Union Militia from Mission Paintball.
<br />
<br />
The day started with Anthraxx going up against the SU Militia. All
season both teams played an aggressive style of paintball so the first
match up was expected to be a high scoring affair.
<br />
<br />

An ATWL match consists of the teams playing two 20 minute games. The
teams play, switch start points for the second game to eliminate any
advantage in the field layout. Teams fight for three capture points.
Five points are awarded for every minute a capture point is held with a
25 point bonus for holding the center capture point at the end of the
game.
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
The Anthraxx and SU Militia match lived up to expectations. The teams
gave their all and each won a game. Anthraxx came out on top of a 310 to
245 capture point score and advanced to play for the championship with
the SU Militia battling for third.
<br />
<br />
The next match of the day was the regular season winners Predators
against the Mercenaries. The outcome of this match would to decide who
would play Anthraxx for the Championship. The match was a closely fought
affair with the Mercenaries winning both games by a slim margin.
<br />
<br />
The afternoon matches were set, Predators against the SU Militia for
third place and Anthraxx would play the Mercenaries for the
Championship.
<br />
<br />
The Predators returned to their regular season form in the afternoon match winning both games to capture third place.

Mercenaries to be crowned the Tippmann X7 Phenom - Atlantic Tactical

<br />
<br />
“We had a tough season this year but the boys pulled it together when it
counted.” said Eric Vail, Captain of Anthraxx. “They fought hard and
pulled out the second ATWL Championship in three years. I am really
proud of my team.”
<br />
<br />
“As the season draws to an exciting close the league would like to thank
Tippmann Sports and PBL Action Sports for making 2012 the best in the
history of the league.” said League Commissioner Bruce Johnston. “We are

The Tippinators were excited to see that one of the team was featured on
the October 2012 cover of Action Pursuit Games (APG) - 2013 Paintball
Buyers Guide. Action Pursuit Games is the largest and most respected
paintball publication on the planet.
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
The 2013 edition of the APG Paintball Buyers features Tippinators player
Bruce Johnston shooting the new Tippmann Crossover. "It is a great
honour to be on the cover of APG." said Johnston, "To be able to
represent Tippmann Sports, the new Crossover and our other sponsors in
such a prestigious publication is a once in a lifetime experience for
the average player."

The action photo was taken by Tippinators team member Mark ‘Tinman’
Miller during play at the CXBL Atlantic Division, MXL event 2 at Mission
Paintball in Moncton New Brunswick.

<br />
<br />
The speedball season in Atlantic Canada is over which means competitive
woodsball is ready to ramp back into full swing. Eastern Canada's
premier woodsball league, the Tippmann X7 Phenom Atlantic Tactical
Woodsball League Event 3 was played Saturday September 22, 2012.
<br />
<br />
The league was very excited that for the first time the ATWL has
expanded outside Nova Scotia to Mission Paintball in Moncton New
Brunswick. Mission Paintball, long known for producing some of the best
speedball players in the country, has a newly expanded woodsball field
and a crew of hard core woodsball players ready to battle for the ATWL
Cup.
<br />
<br />

The field at Mission Paintball is like none other in Atlantic Canada. It
is an urban style field with a multitude of buildings, cars, vans and
buses plus a few trees and terrain features thrown in for good
measure.
<br />
<br />
Josh Gastelum Manager of Mission Paintball & Outdoor Adventure was
excited to host event 3. "We have put a lot of work into the woodsball
field to bring it up to the level needed to host the ATWL" said
Gastemlum, "We look forward to the feedback about the field set up from
the players so we can make it even better for future ATWL events."
<br />
<br />
As in previous seasons event 3 would mark the end of the regular season,
but unlike other years event 3 would also be the first round of the
2012 playoffs. At the end of event 3 the fate of two teams would be
decided; one team would get a bye to the championship finals and another
team’s season
would be over.<br />
<br />
<br />
The top two teams in the league after two events, Predators
and Anthraxx, would battle for the championship bye. The teams were evenly matched;
each team won one game and only a difference of 70 capture points separated the
combatants. Anthraxx came out the winners for the day, but were unable to overcome
the Predators Capture Point total and had to settle for second place. The Mersey
Road Predators were crowned winners of the regular season and received a bye to
the championship final.
<br />

The four remaining
teams played, the total Capture Points earned would determine the
remainder and rankings of the final three championship positions. The
team with the lowest number of Capture Points would be eliminated for
the season.
<br />
<br />
After a fierce afternoon of play the Championship finals were decided.
The Predators will be joined in the championship by Anthraxx, Nova
Scotia Mercenaries and the SU Militia
<br />
<br />
The 2012 championship will be played, and the ATWL Cup awarded, on October 13th, at Mersey Road Paintball in East River Nova Scotia.

Event three of the <a href="http://xball.com/" target="_blank">CXBL Atlantic Division MXL</a>

event two. The game results from event three would have no affect on

<br />
The first game of the day was against Moncton Strict Union. Both teams
knew that the game was going to be played for fun so they agreed to set
all markers to semi and play with only one hopper of paint per point.
<br />
<br />
The Strict Union game turned out to be the most enjoyable game of the
entire season for the Tippinators. Even though the scored ended 10-1 in
favour of Strict, semi automatic hopperball was a game that both teams
will remember as the source of more laughs than any other of the 2012
season.
<br />
<br />
The team's second game of the day was against the 2012 MXL Champion
Fredericton Aggression. For Aggression the game was a formality. They
had already celebrated their league win and were thinking ahead to <a href="http://xball.com/" target="_blank">NAX (North American Xtreme Paintball)</a> and the chance to win the Canadian Championship.<br />

<br />
Fredericton took the field and did to the Tippinators what they did to
every other team throughout the season, they dominated. With nothing on
the line the game had a fun and friendly atmosphere, and ended with
another Aggression win by a score of 10-2.
<br />
<br />
For the last game of the MXL season the Tippinators went up against
Newfoundland Wreckhouse. The powerful Wreckhouse team was favoured to
win the 2012 MXL title but came up short. With the chance of winning
league gone the Newfoundland team hit the field with the same attitude
as the Tippinators, go out throw paint and have fun for the final 40
minutes of the 2012 xball season.
<br />
<br />
From the first point to the final horn both the Tipps and Newfs followed
their games plans. The teams had fun, shot paint and enjoyed a great
day of ball. Wreckhouse once again showed their strength and the depth
of talent on the roster by winning the game 11-3.
<br />
<br />
"We scored one point our first game, two points in our second, and three
points in our third.” said Tippinator Chris Coolen with a laugh, "If we
had nine or ten more games today we might be able to win one.”
<br />
<br />
Restructuring of the league prior the 2012 season that brought CXBL
Elite teams and players to the Atlantic Division MXL dramatically
increased the skill level of teams in the league. The restructuring
coupled with a number of Tippinators players not returning to
competitive paintball in 2013 means the team will be rebuilding and
playing the RXL next season.
<br />
<br />
The Tippinators had a great season playing MXL in 2012 and would like to
thank; Mike Bourque - League Commisioner, Ian Grant - Ultimate
Refereee, <a href="http://buypbl.com/" target="_blank">PBL Action Sports</a>
for effort in putting together and running the premier xball league in
Canada, Jeff Chernier and his crew for their efforts as referees, and
the exceptional support given to the team by <a href="http://tippmann.com/" target="_blank">Tippmann Sports</a>. It is only with the hard work of many people behind the scenes that a league like the MXL is possible.<br />

<b>Minor Xtreme Paintball League Event 2</b>
<br />
<br />
The CXBLs, Atlantic Conference, MXL Moncton, Event 2 the Tippinators for
the first time would be playing three full xball matches in one day. To
make things a little more challenging for the team, the weather at
Event 2 on June 14, 2012 at Mission Paintball in Moncton, New Brunswick
was forecast to be hot and humid.
<br />
<br />
The day started cool but heated up to the mid 90s by mid morning. All
players were relieved when at mid day a light rain started and the heat
broke, momentarily. The shower was short lived, when it ended the
humidity jumped into the 90s. Through the day the temperature plus
humidity meant the players were using cases of water as fast as they
used cases of paint.
<br />
<a name='more'></a>The Tipps gave it all they had with an eight man roster, but came up
short all day. The games against 2011 MXL Champion Newfoundland
Wreckhouse and the 2012 undefeated Fredericton Aggression turned out the
same. In each case the Tipps came out on the short end of a 14-0 score.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhejYLK82Ji7taDsb4VMhvoGLLYF1gYA8O_ycAB6DJBnuKGX-zvWkY0tO9yzCurhdcGDILsmMQIpyJc-zPq9z_d_EaWuFV1hKNHLyTUEFiCLW9butJLiLZX2XXyxfxK5IyNCeB9RIIRedQ/s1600/Tippinators_2012_MXL_E2+%2528101%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhejYLK82Ji7taDsb4VMhvoGLLYF1gYA8O_ycAB6DJBnuKGX-zvWkY0tO9yzCurhdcGDILsmMQIpyJc-zPq9z_d_EaWuFV1hKNHLyTUEFiCLW9butJLiLZX2XXyxfxK5IyNCeB9RIIRedQ/s640/Tippinators_2012_MXL_E2+%2528101%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
"Event 2 showed how hard teams train in this league. You can't for a
second think lady luck will play any part in an xball match." said
Tippinator Dan Lapham. "To walk away with not one but two goose eggs is
probably one of the hardest realities to face in this sport."
<br />
<br />
Lapham continued with a smile, "Considering the team's roots there may
be only one solution for us in Charlottetown at E3. We are going to arm
ourselves with 20oz CO2 tanks, unmodified Tippmann 98s, 24" barrels and a
guile suits."
<br />
<br />
The third game of the day was a rematch from MXL Truro Event 1 against
Moncton Disturbed. The Tipps squeaked out a win at E1 and were ready for
another good game in Event 2. The game was a back and forth battle with
neither team able to take the advantage until the second half.
<br />
<br />
It was a highly entertaining back and forth battle with the final score
7-5. The Tippinators came up short for a third time but when shaking
hands there were smiles all around both teams. The Tippinators had no
wins and dropped to the basement in league standing but everyone had a
great day of paintball.
<br />
<br />

Bedford Maniacs. Chris and Matt really helped the team by guesting with
the Tippinators for two games. With the short roster the Tipps needed
the help, Pyke and Dale came through. Thank you for your help guys, you
are now honorary Tippinators and welcome to play with the team anytime.
<br />
<br />
There is an axiom in Bushido Code - It is more honorable to fight using a
weapon with flaws than to complain of a defeat and say it was not
honorable to use such a weapon. Fortunately for the Tippinators this
axiom was not the case. The Tippmann Crossovers once again ran
flawlessly with the GISportz Four Star Paint. From the cool morning air
making paint brittle to tougher shells cause by increases in heat and
humidity, the Crossovers shot case after case with no issues.
<br />
<br />
Tippinator Bruce Johnston put the events of the day in perspective. "We
commend the top teams in the league who spend a considerable amount of
time on practice and self improvement. Their commitment to the game has
translated to success on the field this season." Johnston continued "We
will face all three of these teams at the next event. We will give each
of these teams everything we've got, and we have fun doing it."
<br />
<br />
With one event left the season the Tippinators are playing for nothing
more than pride. To a man the team is looking forward to Event 3 in
Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Tippinator Chris Landry's attitude
is echoed by the rest of his teammates "The math says we wont take 1st
place, but we'll be damned if we're not going to have fun going down
swinging."<br />

The Tippinators Paintball Team from Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, are very proud to be the Canadian Factory Team for Tippmann Sports. As such the Tippinators are asked to test prototype markers and give real world feedback to the design team at Tippmann.
<br />
<br />
Tippmann Sports has produced high quality paintball markers like the 98, SL68, Pro Carbine, A5, Phenom, and FT-12 for over 25 years. These markers are some of the most rugged and reliable on the market. Now Tippmann ruggedness, reliability and quality have been put into the first paintball marker designed for any style of play with the all new Crossover.

The Crossover a sleek, lightweight, center feed marker that embodies woodsball durability with tournament speed and agility was most recently tested by the Tippinators. The marker is smaller than any other made by Tippmann and is of comparable size to other tournament markers.
<br />
<br />
After the testing was complete, the team received an order of Crossovers just in time for the start of the tournament season. The Tippinators planned to put these first production run markers to the ultimate test and to be the first team to take the Crossover into rigors of league xball.
<br />
<br />
Crossover In Action The fast pace of each point, and the chaos in the pits between points, over the course of a 50 minute xball match puts stress on seasoned players, and proved equipment. The Tippinators planned to take the untried Crossovers into competitive xball play after only one practice to get familiar with the new markers.

Canadian Xtreme Paintball League’s Atlantic Division MXL Event 1 held on June 23rd, 2012 at Armymans Paintball in Truro Nova Scotia was the first opportunity for the Tippinators to give the Crossovers a real test.
<br />
<br />
Tippinator Ken Gardiner a six year xball veteran of the CXBL, AXBL and MXL was impressed with the performance of the Crossover. "I have had the opportunity to have used a wide variety of markers from all of the leading manufacturers over the past six years. This year I was handed a Tippmann Crossover right out of the box with only an adjustment to fire mode and rate of fire." Gardiner said "The marker chrono’d consistently within 7 fps and ran smoothly, point in and point out, for the entire day."
<br />
<br />
The markers preformed magnificently for the entire team. CXBL event paint for the 2012 season is GI Sportz 4 Star Tournament Grade, in the past the Tippinators would not be able to shoot such brittle paint in their high pressure 98s. Ten players used Crossovers for the day, shooting a total of 22 cases of paint without an issue. Every Tippinator who played with a Crossover was impressed with the markers performance.
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Gardiner summed up the feelings of the entire team, "The performance of the marker allowing me to make eliminations early in points, shoot tight lines and hold lanes to lock down zones. The Crossover performed as well, if not better than, markers valued at over $1000."
<br />
<br />
The Tippmann Crossover’s first step into the world of tournament paintball was an unqualified success. Tippinator Captain Bruce Johnston offered a different insight into the Crossover, "If this marker can keep an average player like myself in the game a little longer, I shudder to think what a truly talented player would be able to do with a Crossover in their hands."

<a alt="Tippinators at MXL E1 Photos" href="http://tippinators.com/index.php/gallery/view/128"></a> The Tippinators were pumped for the start of the 2012 CXBL Atlantic
Division season on June 23rd, 2012 at Armyman’s Paintball in Truro Nova
Scotia. Not only did the team have a few new faces in the line up, but
the players were shooting the all new Tippmann Crossover.
<br />
<br />
The team arrived to the field early to put the final tweaks on equipment
and spend extra time coming together as a cohesive unit. After a warm
up and laughing enough to make cheeks sore, it was time for each player
to put on his game face and start the xball season.

The Tippinators came out strong against Riverview Disturbed in the first
game of the season. The teams were evenly matched, traded points back
and forth through the first half. At the start of the second half the
Tipps settled in with the new markers and scored a string of unanswered
points.
<br />
<br />
Riverview made a valiant charge to come within striking distance but the
clock worked against them and time ran out. The final score of a very
entertaining game was the Tippinators 8, Disturbed 5.
<br />
<br />
There was a one game wait before the Tipps second game of the day. Pods
were quickly refilled and equipment cleaned as the team readied for what
they knew would be a tough match against the 2011 CXBL Eastern
Conference Champion Moncton Strict Union.
<br />
<br />
Last season a number of different Strict Union players guested with the
Tippinators throughout the season. Because of the familiarity and sense
of camaraderie between the teams, this game would be fun regardless of
the outcome.
<br />
<br />
Strict Union started the game strong and never looked back. The Tipps
struggled to counter Strict’s aggressive field movements and accurate
shooting. The Tipps were held in check from the outset and on there
heels the entire game. Strict Union out hustled the Tipps for a final
score of 12 -1 in run away contest that was never in doubt.

MXL Event 1 was the first opportunity for the Tippinators to give the
Crossovers a real test. The markers preformed magnificently. CXBL event
paint this season is GI Sportz 4 Star Tournament Grade, in the past the
team would not be able to shoot such brittle paint in their high
pressure 98s. Ten players used Crossovers for the day, shooting a total
of 22 cases of paint through the Crossovers without an issue.
<br />
<br />
The 2012 Tippinators may have new faces and new guns but they still have
the same play for fun attitude. The team may have come out of the day
with a 1-1 record but it was a great day of paintball as seen by the
smiles on the players faces.Tippinatorshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02816518151023950491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1177041349686874527.post-51435721075732309212012-06-11T18:11:00.000-03:002017-03-05T17:11:47.684-04:002012 Atlantic Tactical Woodsball League Event 2<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<b>ATWL Event Two Played Rain and Shine</b>
<br />
<br />
<br />
The second event of the 2012 Tippmann X7 Phenom Atlantic Tactical
Woodsball League was played June 9th at Hypersportz Paintball in Mount
Uniacke Nova Scotia.
<br />
<br />
Rain overnight and all game day morning left many players disheartened
that once again they would be playing in boot sucking mud, with players
afraid that an inadvertent marker drop would result in a gun never being
seen again. Although the ATWL had visited this location in previous
seasons, this woodsball field had not been seen by players in the past.

Hypersportz Paintball (formerly Overkill Sportz) has been taken over by a
new owner who is making considerable field improvements. Teams that are
visiting Hypersportz for the first time since last season were very
impressed with the changes.
<br />
<br />
Thousands of dollars invested by the new owner in improved drainage,
clearing firing lanes, leveling the ground and reposition bunkers will
make the field play faster and put a premium on communication plus
coordinated fire and movement.
<br />
<br />
<br />
Often the first game can set the tone for the entire day. The cold rain
didn't dampen the excitement as the Nova Scotia Mercenaries went up
against the SU Militia. The fighting was so fierce that at times it
seemed there were more paintballs in the air than rain drops. If this
game was an indication event two would be an exciting day.
<br />
<br />
As the day wore on, the weather improved but there was no improving on
the already top notch paintball. The matches between current and former
champions, plus epic battles between two new teams to the league all the
games were back and forth fights went down to the wire.
<br />
<br />

The SU Militia from Moncton, New Brunswick went on a tear at event two.
They kicked their game up a notch since event one, and were the team to
beat at event two. The Militia won all four of their games with a total
combined 790 flag capture points.
<br />
<br />
Another surprise of the day was the improved play Green Acres Goblins.
First year teams in a very competitive league can sometimes get
overwhelmed. The Goblins showed they were able to adapt their play and
fight toe to toe with the best teams in the region.
<br />
<br />
No one team is breaking away from the pack. The top of the leader board
is tightening. The new teams are improving quickly. The 2012 Tippmann X7
Phenom Atlantic Tactical Woodsball League has reached the half way
point and who will be crowned champion is anybody's guess. This may turn
out to be the most exciting finish in ATWL history.
