Interview by Bruce Johnston

Halifax City United (HCU), one of the best xball teams in Canada, is heading back to their roots by playing in the Atlantic Tactical Woodsball League (ATWL). Bruce ‘Charon’ Johnston from 68Caliber.com sat down with Gilbert Rossingol from HCU to find out why the CXBL is invading the ATWL.

Bruce ‘Charon’ Johnston (68Caliber): Why is a team playing in Canada’s professional xball league, the Canadian Xtreme Paintball League (CXBL), playing in a regional woodsball league?

Do More Markers Make You a Better Player?

Most players are as defensive of their marker choice, and style of play, as a mother bear protecting her cubs. Just log on to any on line forum and read about how this gun sucks, and that style of play blows and you will know what I mean. That is why when I show up at the field with a crate of markers I always get a few puzzled stares.

The day after category one hurricane Earl roared through the Maritimes – uprooting trees, laying waste to trailer parks and cancelling Saturday – the final event of the Atlantic Xtreme Paintball League (AXBL) was played.

Predators Attack PDF Print E-mail

The Mersey Road Predators were on the attack during event three of the Atlantic Tactical Woodsball League (ATWL) event at Mersey Road Paintball on August 28th, 2010.

The Predators were confident that they would be able to catch the current point leaders and defending champions Mersey Road Mercenaries, as well as second place Team Anthraxx, both of whom they trailed by only a small margin. Iron Legion trailed the Predators by an equally small margin, making every game count. The Predators entered the competition confident that they would be able to catch and move ahead of the leaders.

“There are some great teams in the league this year” said Predator player and field owner Jim Langlois “We will need to play our best paintball today if we want a chance to win the title.”

The Predators played aggressive, heads up paintball all day, but were unable to close, frustrated by a two point gap.

The Mercenaries and Team Anthraxx also maintained their slim lead in the standings, ahead of the young Iron Legion team who are now within four points of the lead. The Iron Legion finished the day strong and managed to close the gap, to end the day tied with the Predators.

The Mersey Road Mercenaries maintained their league leading position in their quest for a championship three-peat.

Kevin Whynot, the Mercenaries Team Captain, was impressed with the competition. “We hoped to extend our lead heading into the last event of the season” Whynot said, “Everyone else brought their A game today and things have really tightened up in the standings.”

The points are so close in the standings that all four teams – Mercenaries, Anthraxx, Predators & Iron Legion – have a chance to win. Everything will come down to the final event before a champion can be declared..

The Halifax Maniacs have unfortunately been statistically eliminated from contention, though they can still act the spoiler and are in the enviable position of being able to deny the contenders the championship.

The Standings After Event 3
20 pts Mersey Road Mercenaries
18 pts Anthraxx
16 pts Mersey Road
16 pts Iron Legion
2 pts Halifax Maniacs

Fire Island Paintball in Nova Scotia will be hosting event four….the field will live up to it’s name when the hottest woodsball action of the season takes place at the ATWL championship!
