The speedball season in Atlantic Canada is over which means competitive woodsball is ready to ramp back into full swing. Eastern Canada's premier woodsball league, the Tippmann X7 Phenom Atlantic Tactical Woodsball League Event 3 was played Saturday September 22, 2012.
The league was very excited that for the first time the ATWL has expanded outside Nova Scotia to Mission Paintball in Moncton New Brunswick. Mission Paintball, long known for producing some of the best speedball players in the country, has a newly expanded woodsball field and a crew of hard core woodsball players ready to battle for the ATWL Cup.
The field at Mission Paintball is like none other in Atlantic Canada. It is an urban style field with a multitude of buildings, cars, vans and buses plus a few trees and terrain features thrown in for good measure.
Josh Gastelum Manager of Mission Paintball & Outdoor Adventure was excited to host event 3. "We have put a lot of work into the woodsball field to bring it up to the level needed to host the ATWL" said Gastemlum, "We look forward to the feedback about the field set up from the players so we can make it even better for future ATWL events."
As in previous seasons event 3 would mark the end of the regular season, but unlike other years event 3 would also be the first round of the 2012 playoffs. At the end of event 3 the fate of two teams would be decided; one team would get a bye to the championship finals and another team’s season would be over.
The top two teams in the league after two events, Predators and Anthraxx, would battle for the championship bye. The teams were evenly matched; each team won one game and only a difference of 70 capture points separated the combatants. Anthraxx came out the winners for the day, but were unable to overcome the Predators Capture Point total and had to settle for second place. The Mersey Road Predators were crowned winners of the regular season and received a bye to the championship final.
The afternoon games were the first round of playoffs. The four remaining teams played, the total Capture Points earned would determine the remainder and rankings of the final three championship positions. The team with the lowest number of Capture Points would be eliminated for the season.
After a fierce afternoon of play the Championship finals were decided. The Predators will be joined in the championship by Anthraxx, Nova Scotia Mercenaries and the SU Militia
The 2012 championship will be played, and the ATWL Cup awarded, on October 13th, at Mersey Road Paintball in East River Nova Scotia.
